Georgia Department Of Transportation

Atlanta, Georgia (January 16, 2012) – Chicago-based F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen (Paschen) hired Atlanta based Turnkey Engineering, Construction & Roofing (Turnkey) to help replace the roofing system on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) administration building. The recently completed project was performed without any disruption to the organization’s daily work activities.

“The GDOT is housed in an older facility and their roof was in dire need of a new roofing system,” said Karl Ek, vice president, Turnkey. “There were many leaks and they were on a tight budget, so our challenge was to install a new roofing system without any interruptions to the personnel working throughout the building,” he added.

Due to the fact that this building had a spray on fire retardant on the side that was exposed to the ground, it made it very difficult to try to remove the entire flat roof and replace it with a new roof. “We worked with Paschen and GDOT to develop a unique solution to this challenge,” Ek explained. “The solution was to retrofit metal R-Panel that would allow us to add the new roof on top of the old roof, all without interrupting the interior of the building or allow fire retardant to fall from its structure.” Turnkey added a framing system that would give this new roof support while allowing the space between the two panels to breathe to avoid condensation. Ek added that this successful project also included changing the color from a greenish grey coating to a white color to help reflect heat and lower utility bills. The roof’s gutter systems were also replaced as part of this project.

“Turnkey was chosen because they have the expertise to complete a challenging project like this in a working environment,” said Leo Wright, vice president of F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen’s Job Order Contract Division. “Turnkey also has the local talent and resources needed to get these projects completed for us on a fast-track basis without sacrificing quality,” he explained. The project is being completed under the EZIQC Program, which is Paschen’s Job Order Contract system offered to municipalities and agencies throughout the country to “fast track” their small to medium size projects using an agreed upon unit pricing system.

Butler-Roof.gifFor Paschen, Turnkey most recently completed renovations to Georgia College’s Milledgeville Campus, which included installing ceiling systems throughout the campus’ basketball arena and completing flooring work in the campus’ library. Also for Paschen, Turnkey recently completed rehabilitation work to the exteriors of Georgia College’s Milledgeville Campus historical buildings.
